Known as the “White Egret Castle”, it is the grandest of Japan’s remaining feudal castles. With a rich history including the Tokugawa Shogun, the Castle still towers over many of Himeji City’s modern buildings. A 45 minute train ride from Kobe, Himeji is a modern city which plays as a backdrop to a dazzling array of history and epitome of Japanese architecture.
With a nominal entrance fee, the Castle is truly an experience that should not be overlooked. From every angle the Castle provide so many photographic opportunities, it is hard to resist taking so many pictures. We also purchased a combination ticket to enter the Himeji Castle Gardens later.
There is a lot written about the Castle and it is very popular in pop culture, film and literature so if you are interested I recommending looking up some information. The tour of the Castle tour is very good allowing you to view almost every section of the main tower including going right up to the top of the Castle. Although very busy as it was a long weekend, the wait was more than worth it. The view from the Castle was also just as good as the Castle itself.
The Castle Garden is also a “not to miss” destination as it contains a very picturesque combination of water, fish, wood and plants. The main section with the expansive Koi pond and waterfall was incredibly beautiful. The Garden also contained various other separate themed gardens that had a different approach on the Japanese art of garden design.
All in all, the Castle is a highly recommend place and yielded many photos once again, so please enjoy! For more pictures please look at the following post titled Himeji Castle & Gardens – Most Pictures.
