Pre-Departure Research

Now that it is less than 3 weeks until I am off to Japan, it would be a good time to starting researching about the place. Compliments of my mom, these are the books she has bought me

  1. Eyewitness Travel: Japan – This book can be summed up in 1 word: Pictures. This is basically a guidebook on Japan with many pictures of the points of interest and the various destinations. This is a good travelling book because at least you know what you are looking for!
  2. A Traveller’s History of Japan: Third Edition by Richard Tames – Easy to read and fairly interesting; this book would probably be best read on the plane.

I have also searched Google for other students’ blogs since Kansai Gaidai has a large international exchange program. There were some interesting blogs and one of them was one written by a guy name Evan who went on exchange to KGU in Spring 2007. His blog is pretty insightful with plenty of commentary and numerous pictures of all the places he visited. Here is one from his blog:

Time left until departure: 18 days and counting
